چکیده
ABSTRACT In the period of planting second-season maize, there is high climatic instability with greater probability occurrence water deficit. This one factors that most cause reduction in maize grain yield. this context, aim was to identify stable, irrigation-responsive and drought-tolerant genotypes. The experiments were conducted Mococa / SP Tatuí SP, at Instituto Agronômico, two assays, under full irrigation conditions other stress. experimental design randomized blocks 3 replicates. Male flowering, female plant height, ear hectoliter weight, hundred weight yield evaluated. Joint analysis variance stability performed by GGEBiplot method. Significant genotype site effects observed for all traits. x interaction found traits except height male flowering. characteristics affected deficit heights Genotypes F2 BM709 PopTol 2, IAC 46 30K75 are considered ideotypes because their yield, phenotypic plasticity drought tolerance.

Drought Responses of Foliar Metabolites in Three Maize Hybrids Differing in Water Stress Tolerance
Maize (Zea mays L.) hybrids varying in drought tolerance were treated with water stress in controlled environments. Experiments were performed during vegetative growth and water was withheld for 19 days beginning 17 days after sowing. Genotypic comparisons used measured changes of leaf water potential or results were expressed by time of treatment. Total dry matter of the drought tolerant hybri...
متن کاملEvaluation of drought tolerance of new grapevine rootstock hybrids.
The drought tolerance is a very important property of grapevine rootstocks. For that reason the breeding and selection of new rootstock varieties is focused also on the evaluation of their drought tolerance. In this experiment, altogether 20 new hybrids and 4 existing rootstock varieties were compared and evaluated. The experimental scheme involved 3 variants of water supply. Evaluated were the...
متن کاملReduced Lateral Root Branching Density Improves Drought Tolerance in Maize.
An emerging paradigm is that root traits that reduce the metabolic costs of soil exploration improve the acquisition of limiting soil resources. Here, we test the hypothesis that reduced lateral root branching density will improve drought tolerance in maize (Zea mays) by reducing the metabolic costs of soil exploration, permitting greater axial root elongation, greater rooting depth, and thereb...
متن کاملImproving drought tolerance in maize: a view from industry
Significant yield losses in maize (Zea mays L.) from drought are expected to increase with global climate change as temperatures rise and rainfall distribution changes in key traditional production areas. The success of conventional crop improvement over the past 50 years for drought tolerance forms a baseline against which new genetic methods must be compared. Selection based on performance in...
متن کاملSelection for Drought Tolerance in Two Tropical Maize Populations
Drought is a major factor limiting maize (Zea mays L.) yield in much of the world. The need to breed maize cultivars with improved drought tolerance is apparent. This study compared two maize populations, ZM601 and ZM607 for drought tolerance during flowering, the most drought-vulnerable period for the maize plant. Cultivar ZM601 had been improved through recurrent selection for two cycles for ...
